National Homeless Person’s Memorial Day
National Homeless Person’s Memorial Day serves to raise awareness of those who don’t have a place to call home, and to remember those who have died as a result of being homeless. Since 1990, our country has observed National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day. HPMD is observed on the Winter Solstice – the longest night of the year, which this year is 21st day of December. The observance serves as a reminder that in a country of wealth, there are people whose life expectancy is shortened due to what preceded and occurred while they were homeless.
CITRUS COUNTY – A candle light vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m. on December 21st in downtown Inverness by the Fountain. Mid Florida Homeless Coalition invites the public to come and remember those who have died in 2017 or in previous years. Anyone that has questions or would like additional information, please call our office at 352.860.2308.
HERNANDO COUNTY – Crescent Community Clinic will be holding an event at their clinic at 5244 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, FL from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Health Screenings, cold weather items, box lunches, and various other resources will be available. Anyone that has questions or would like additional information, please call the Clinic at 352.610.9916.
We encourage everyone to pause for a few moments on December 21st to remember those who died without having a home of their home.
